Kenji Cabrera called up to represent Peru in international friendly matches

VANCOUVER, BC – The Peruvian Football Federation announced on Thursday that Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Kenji Cabrera has been called up to Peru for a pair of upcoming international friendlies.

This marks Cabrera’s seventh call up to Peru’s senior men’s team since 2025, all after joining Whitecaps FC, including consecutive nods in the last three international windows. The young midfielder has made four starts in seven appearances for Los Rojiblancos, totalling 342 minutes, including two caps in Peru’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers in late 2025.

Cabrera, born to a Peruvian father and a Japanese mother in Shiga, Japan, also represented Peru at the youth level, notching 14 appearances with the U-20s.

Peru will play two international friendlies matches against World Cup participating nations Haiti and Spain. La Bicolor first face Haiti at Nu Stadium in Miami, Florida, home of Inter Miami CF, on Saturday, June 5 before heading south to Puebla, Mexico to take on Spain on Monday, June 8 at Estadio Cuauhtémoc.  

This is Cabrera’s second season with the ‘Caps, joining the squad in July 2025 as a U22 Initiative signing. Since arriving in Vancouver, Cabrera has made seven starts in 26 appearances across all competitions and has registered six goal contributions (3 G, 3A), including most recently getting a helper on Brian White’s second goal in the ‘Caps 4-2 victory at San Diego FC on May 23.

To date, six Whitecaps FC first team players have been called up for the upcoming FIFA international window, including Cabrera, Bruno Caicedo (Ecuador pre-World Cup camp), Ralph Priso (Canada pre-World Cup camp), Sebastian Berhalter (United States), Rayan Elloumi (Tunisia), and Liam Mackenzie (Canada U-20).
