Five players who represented Vancouver Whitecaps FC this past year have been selected as nominees for the 2019 Canada Soccer Player Awards.
The nominees include centre back Derek Cornelius, who got a nod for Canadian Male Player of the Year, and Gianfranco Facchineri, Kamron Habibullah, Damiano Pecile, and Caitlin Shaw, who are up for Canadian Youth International Player of the Year on the men’s and women’s side, respectively.
Also included are Whitecaps FC alumni Alphonso Davies, Jordyn Huitema, and Tanya Boychuk.
Media and coaches will vote for the Canadian Players of the Year while only coaches will vote on the Canadian Youth International Players of the Year. Both a male and female player will be selected for each award. Canada Soccer staff coaches will select the 2019 Canadian Para Soccer Player of the Year and the Canadian Futsal Player of the Year.
Voting will take place from November 27 through December 8.
Canadian Players of the Year
Voting will be done by Canadian media and coaches, selecting first choice, second choice, and third choice. The award celebrates Canada Soccer’s top footballers in recognition of their 2019 achievements with both the National Team and their respective club teams.
