Christian Dean
has been called up to the United States men’s national team for a month long camp – January 12 to February 8 – in Carson, California and Santiago, Chile.
For Dean, 21, this marks the first time he has been called up by head coach Jurgen Klinsmann to the United States senior men’s national team. Previously, the East Palo Alto, California native has represented his country at the U-23, U-21, and U-20 levels. Most recently, Dean was called in to the United States U-23 team for an October camp in Brasilia, Brazil, as the squad continues preparations for qualification to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
The 28-man roster in the annual January camp is a combination of World Cup veterans and younger players, including Dean who is one of 12 Olympic-age players who would be eligible to play for the US Olympic team in 2016.
The camp kicks off in Carson, California this Monday, January 12. Following 10 days of training in Southern California, the team will head to Santiago, Chile as it prepares for its first friendly of the year against fellow 2014 World Cup side Chile on Wednesday, January 28, at Estadio El Teniente in Rancagua. Kickoff time will be announced at a later date. Upon returning to Carson, the US will host Panama on February 8 at the StubHub Center.
In his rookie season, Dean, a Generation adidas player, made four MLS regular season appearances for Whitecaps FC, including one start at FC Dallas on September 13. The 6-foot-3 defender also started both of Vancouver’s matches against Toronto FC in the Amway Canadian Championship semifinals.
