Colin's Keys: Service, Clean Sheet, and Leadership

Colin Miller's Keys to the Match

Tune in on matchdays for a one hour pre-match show and one hour post-match show as Colin Miller and Corey Basso call the action live on AM730. Saturday’s pre-match show kicks off at 5:00 p.m. PT at whitecapsfc.com/am730.

Here are Colin’s keys to the match for the ‘Caps road match at Houston Dynamo FC.

Service to Lucas Cavallini

Lucas Cavallini has done well with his back to goal this season, but the ‘Caps must get him more service in the box.

Cavallini is a threat inside of the box. That has been shown during his career, including with the national team and last year with the ‘Caps. There was also a glimpse with a pair of crosses and headers against Minnesota, but there needs to continue to be more service.

It’s important that the team gets him crosses into the box to give him those chances to finish.

Clean sheet

The ‘Caps had a tough time with pressure and matching runs against a very good Sporting Kansas City team on the weekend.

They will need to have tight marking from front to back in Houston, and it’s critical in and around the box.

Overall they will need to be tougher to break down to keep Houston from scoring.

Experienced players show leadership

In order for the ‘Caps to bounce back with a positive result going into their break, they will need their experienced players to show leadership.

Look for some of the older and more experienced players on the team like Andy Rose, Lucas Cavallini, and Erik Godoy, and even newcomer Bruno Gaspar if he is available, who has experience playing in top leagues in Europe.

They will need to bring composure, positivity, and competitiveness to the group.
