VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed today that midfielder Russell Teibert and striker Darren Mattocks were named to their respective 23-man national team rosters for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup next month.

Canada, who are co-hosting the tournament, tabbed Teibert after his impressive outing in the recently-concluded home-and-away series against Dominica for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The Whitecaps FC Homegrown player from Niagara Falls, Ontario scored his first senior international goal in the 2-0 road win on June 11.

Mattocks rejoins Jamaica after appearing in two matches in the 2015 Copa America earlier this month. The former MLS SuperDraft pick started in the opening match versus Uruguay, and then came on as a 76th-minute substitute against Paraguay on June 16.

Canada and Jamaica, along with Costa Rica and El Salvador, are together in Group B.

The tournament will run from July 7 to 26 in 14 venues across North America, including BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario.

The Canadian team will assemble in California on June 28 and get just over a week to prepare for their tournament opener on July 8 vs. El Salvador. Canada enters the competition riding a four-game winning streak and a five-game unbeaten run.

CANADA SCHEDULE

  • Wednesday, July 8 vs. El Salvador: 7:30 p.m. PT at the StubHub Center (Carson, California)
  • Saturday, July 11 vs. Jamaica: 3:30 p.m. PT at BBVA Compass Stadium (Houston, Texas)
  • Tuesday, July 14 vs. Costa Rica: 5:30 p.m. PT at BMO Field (Toronto, Ontario)

JAMAICA SCHEDULE

  • Wednesday, July 8 vs. Costa Rica: 5 p.m. PT at the StubHub Center (Carson, California)
  • Saturday, July 11 vs. Canada: 3:30 p.m. PT at BBVA Compass Stadium (Houston, Texas)
  • Tuesday, July 14 vs. El Salvador: 3 p.m. PT at BMO Field (Toronto, Ontario)

The top two teams from each group, as well as the two highest-seeded third-place finishers, will advance to the knockout stages. Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, will be the site for the final match on July 26.

All of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup matches will be broadcast live in Canada on Sportsnet World.

Canada won the Gold Cup in 2000 and has since succeeded in making it to the tournament semifinals in 2002 and 2007. The Reds also made it to the quarterfinals in 2009.

“The main aim in this Gold Cup for us is to get as far as possible," said Canada head coach Benito Floro. "We want to get to the final and every game that we get in the tournament will increase our level of play. We are going to play against three teams that are higher-ranked than us so we need to show that we are growing and developing against those teams and show that we are doing things in the right way."

Jamaica enjoyed their highest finish when they drew with Costa Rica for third place in the 1993 tournament.

Teibert will miss Whitecaps FC matches starting with the July 4 game at Colorado Rapids, while Mattocks will be unavailable on July 12 against Sporting Kansas City. The earliest they will be back in the 'Caps lineup is on July 18 at Portland Timbers FC, depending on how far Canada and Jamaica advance in the tournament.
