VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Kenji Cabrera has been called up to Peru's men's national team for their September international window.
The 22-year-old receives his third call-up to the senior team, as he looks to earn his first senior cap with Peru. Cabrera will be looking to help his country wrap up their CONMEBOL 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup Qualifying campaign in style. Mathematically, Peru could still qualify for the playoff spot (seventh place), but they'd have win both of their final matches in qualifying. First up, Peru travel to face Uruguay on Thursday, September 4 at Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay, with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m. PT.
Cabrera and his country will then host Paraguay and Whitecaps FC teammate Andrés Cubas on Tuesday, September 9. Kickoff from Estadio Nacional in Lima, Peru is set for 4:30 p.m. PT.
Born to a Peruvian father and a Japanese mother in Shiga, Japan, Cabrera has represented Peru at the youth level, making 14 appearances for the U-20 side. Cabrera was previously called up to the senior team in March and June 2025
Cabrera joined Whitecaps FC via transfer as a U22 Initiative signing from Peruvian side FBC Melgar in July 2025 and has gone on to make three appearances with the club since arriving in Vancouver.
