VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite won 6-1 against Unity FC on Senior Night at Ken Woods Field on Wednesday.
The result jumps the 'Caps past Unity FC and into second place in the standings.
Prior to the match, eight graduating seniors were honoured.
Unity FC opened the scoring in the 30th minute, but four minutes later the 'Caps equalized. After Ava Jackson rounded the goalkeeper in the box before desperation defending stopped her, Anna Hauer hustled to get to the ball through the scramble and level the match at 1-1 going into halftime.
Straightway to start the second half, the 'Caps earned a penalty. Kierra Blundell stepped up to score from the spot and give the 'Caps a 2-1 lead.
From there, the 'Caps started to roll. Joy Kimwemwe made it 3-1. That was followed two minutes later by Jaime Perrault to make it 4-1.
Not to be outdone, Blundell added two more of her own to complete her hat-trick and make it a 6-1 final score. With five goals in the past two matches, Blundell now leads League1 BC with seven goals on the season.
The 'Caps are back in action next Wednesday, June 21 when they visit Swangard Stadium to face TSS Rovers. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. PT.
