VICTORIA, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite recorded a 3-0 victory at Centennial Stadium against Victoria Highlanders FC this Sunday afternoon.
The first half started with both sides looking to gain control of the midfield, as Paige Payne’s flick led to a break out opportunity, but ‘Caps goalkeeper Bella Lister was the first to get to the ball before the forward could get a first touch inside the box in the 21st minute.
The Blue & White would score the opening goal of the match with Jamie Perrault’s work inside the box leading to an opportunity, as her pass found Anna Hauer, her strike then made it 1-0 in the 34th minute.
The second half would see the ‘Caps doubling their lead in quick fashion, as Jeneva Hernandez Gray’s first touch pass gave her squad a quick counter attack, Hauer’s run saw her shot hit the left post, forward Ashley Roberts then converted the rebound in the 51st minute.
Just moments later following a corner delivered by Olivia Ahern, defender and team captain Clare Logan sent the ball into the net, widening her side’s lead in the 53rd minute.
Later on in the match, Highlanders FC would find an opportunity in their final third, as defender Mary Nicholls’ rebound chance was held off by Lister in the 70th minute.
The ‘Caps continued with their press in the later stages, as Turi’s overstep and quick run led to the fullback hitting the top corner of the bar with a curled shot in the 88th minute.
