League1 BC: 'Caps drop 4-0 result to Victoria Highlanders FC

VICTORIA, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC BMO MLS Academy dropped a 4-0 loss against Victoria Highlanders FC at Centennial Stadium this Sunday afternoon in League1 BC action.

As the first half started, ‘Caps midfielder Alesandro Comita saw his shot outside the box saved in the sixth minute of the match.

Highlanders FC responded quickly later on, as winger Isaac Koch cut inside and unleashed a shot on goal past 'Caps goalkeeper Harrison Gough to give his team a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute of the match.

The home side would double their lead in quick succession.

Following a short set piece, midfielder Koby Greaves’ cross found defender Arman Nijjar inside the box, who thumped the ball into the net to make it 2-0 for Highlanders FC.

Following a 'Caps chance inside the box via forward Tomás Peña, Highlanders FC then created a quick counter attack, as forward Michael Henman found forward Hussein Behery to slot in Victoria's third goal of the match in first half stoppage time.

The young ‘Caps started the second half strongly with another chance, as forward Joven Mann would see his shot deflect off the post in the 47th minute of the match.

In the 66th minute, Highlanders FC were awarded a penalty kick, as defender Cody Gysbers converted from the spot, widening his team’s lead.

The young ‘Caps didn’t give up with their chances in the second half, as they had another opportunity moments later. Substitute Deylen Vellios’ pass founnd forward Asvin Chauhan inside the box, who struck the crossbar in the 77th minute.

Following a run from substitute Juliano Campedelli in the late stages of the match, the 'Caps would once again come close to grabbing a goal as his cross found winger Yayo Mutombo, who's header was in the 90th minute.

The 'Caps will now get set for a home match against TSS Rovers on Sunday, June 12 at Ken Woods Field in UBC, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. PT.
