WEEKLY STORYLINES:

BEAT MIAMI: It's time. After surpassing the likes of Deportivo Saprissa, CF Monterrey, and Pumas UNAM, Vancouver Whitecaps FC are set to play the opening leg of their Concacaf Champions Cup semifinal against MLS rivals Inter Miami CF this Thursday at BC Place. The 'Caps progressed to the semifinal stage after a 3-3 aggregate score against Pumas on away goals thanks to Tristan Blackmon's memorable, last-gasp equalizer in Mexico City. Meanwhile, Miami defeated fellow MLS outfit LAFC 3-2 on aggregate after mounting a 3-1 comeback win in the second leg. Thursday's match will mark the second all-time meeting between the sides, with Miami paying a visit last season in MLS action. The second leg of the semifinal will take place next Wednesday, April 30 at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

DEFENSIVE PROWESS: The Blue and White have enjoyed a productive start to the season at both ends of the pitch, leading the way in goals scored in MLS play with 17 and sitting tied for the least goals conceded in the league with six. The attack has gotten it's attention but make no mistake, Jesper Sørensen's defensive setup deserves to be commended just as much. To back it up, the 'Caps have allowed the least shots against in the league with 22, are tied for the lowest expected goals conceded with 8.1, are tied for the most clean sheets in league play with five, and are tied for fourth in the Western Conference for interceptions per match with 9.9. In addition, defenders Tristan Blackmon, Édier Ocampo, and Mathías Laborda have earned selections to the MLS Team of the Matchday this season.

TOP OF THE WEST SHOWDOWN: Following their first leg clash with Miami, the 'Caps will quickly shift their focus towards a top of the West showdown at third-placed Minnesota United FC on Sunday. Vancouver enters Matchday 10 leading the MLS Supporters' Shield with 20 points (6W-1L-2D) - extending their best-ever start to a regular season - which is four points ahead of Minnesota as well as second-placed Austin FC in the Western Conference standings. The 'Caps previous visit to Allianz Field saw them claim a 3-1 victory over the Loons thanks to goals from Brian White, Mathías Laborda, and Sebastian Berhalter. They'll be looking to repeat the feat on Sunday and further extend their unbeaten road record (2W-0L-2D) in MLS play this season.
