WEEKLY STORYLINES

PLAYOFF BOUND: Vancouver Whitecaps FC secured their place in the 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against rivals LAFC on Saturday night at BMO Stadium. Reduced to 10 men just seven minutes into the match, the 'Caps showed tremendous resilience to earn a valuable point on the road. Oliver Larraz opened the scoring in the 43rd minute with his first goal for the club, before LAFC equalized shortly after halftime. The result marked just the third time in MLS history a team has earned a draw or win on the road after playing more than 80 minutes down a player. Vancouver also secured a club-record fourth consecutive MLS Cup Playoffs appearance.

BATTLE AT THE TOP: Vancouver Whitecaps FC play a pivotal Western Conference showdown on Wednesday, October 14, as they visit St. Louis CITY SC at Energizer Park. CITY SC enter the matchup riding a 20-match unbeaten streak across all competitions, tying the MLS record for the longest such run. With the sides separated by just one point atop the Western Conference, Wednesday’s match carries added significance in the race for first place. Vancouver have won four, lost two and drawn one of their seven meetings with St. Louis since the club joined MLS in 2023. However, CITY SC claimed a 3-1 victory at BC Place in their most recent encounter on September 5, earning their first-ever road win against the ‘Caps.

THE FINAL STRETCH: Vancouver Whitecaps FC continue their five-match road stretch with three more away fixtures before returning to BC Place at the end of the month. The ‘Caps visit St. Louis CITY SC on Wednesday, October 14, followed by Austin FC on Saturday, October 17, and the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, October 24. The Blue and White will then return home for the first time in more than a month, hosting San Diego FC on Wednesday, October 28, before welcoming Seattle Sounders FC for Fan Appreciation presented by Chevrolet on Sunday, November 1. Vancouver will close out the 2026 MLS regular season on the road against CF Montréal on Decision Day, Saturday, November 7.

COLIN MILLER'S KEYS TO THE MATCH

  • Manage overplaying
Don't overplay in our defensive third.
St. Louis will punish us on the counter if we do.
  • Be disciplined
This match is the biggest test of the season for me defensively.
We need to be disciplined, keep our shape, and stay with runners from front to back.
  • Keep the same mentality
Phenomenal character and performance against LAFC.
We will need this same mentality as well as good quality in the attacking third of the field.
We can get a positive result here.

Catch Asa Rehman and Colin Miller on the 730 CKNW radio call this Saturday, with the pre-match show kicking off at 5 p.m. PT.
