Whitecaps FC joins the community in celebrating KidSport BC Week from September 8 to 14.

KidSport is a program that helps address the challenges faced by many families when registering their children in organized sport. From a modest start in 1993, issuing $35,000 in grants, KidSport has grown exponentially across the country and has become a truly national entity with 11 provincial/territorial chapters and over 180 community based chapters.

Last year alone, 2,061 KidSport grants were awarded totalling $540,609, aiding in removing the financial barriers that prevent some children from playing organized sport.

Whitecaps FC pitch in the cause, lending their presence in fundraising events including their annual KidSport Creating Community Champions Gala, as well as donating goods for the cause.

"It's a fun event for a great cause. Being in sports myself, we know how important it is for kids who can't afford to play to be given the chance to get involved, and KidSport does a great job with that," said Carl Valentine, Whitecaps FC legend and club ambassador. "Most of the friends I had growing up, I made through sport. I was a shy lad growing up, and sports allowed me to interact with my teammates much more because you have something in common that you enjoy. That helped me grow and become the person that I am now."

KidSport is proud to help more kids experience these benefits.
