Unbeaten weekend for Whitecaps FC from academy, to Girls Elite, to MLS first team

Winning weekend

It was a winning Whitecaps FC weekend with big victories for the MLS squad, Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2), and Girls Elite team in League1 BC, as well as victories for the Boys MLS Academy U-15, U-16, and U-17 teams.

MLS

The ‘Caps first team stretched their unbeaten streak to eight matches with a highly entertaining 3-2 win over Minnesota United FC at BC Place. The 11 points in the last five matches is tied for the most in the league, as the 'Caps have outscored the opposition 9-2.

Brian White had a brace, Simon Becher scored on his first touch, and the ‘Caps also set a new club record MLS shutout streak before it finally came to an impressive end at 443 minutes.

MLS NEXT Pro

WFC2 continued their strong start to the season with a big 1-0 home win over Dynamo Dos at Swangard Stadium, keeping them in the top four in the Western Conference.

Rookie midfielder J.C. Ngando scored his first pro goal in the victory.

League1 BC

The defending champion Whitecaps FC Girls Elite went down 1-0 early, but that only added fuel to their fire as they roared back for a 7-1 win against Rivers FC. The match also served as further prep for the upcoming Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup in Zurich, Switzerland next week.

The boys also continued their unbeaten start, coming back to secure a 1-1 draw.

With eight total points through four games, Whitecaps FC are also in good position in the race for the Juan de Fuca Plate – an award given annually by supporters to the club with the highest combined points total between both their men’s and women’s squads.

MLS NEXT

The U-15s and U-17s both brought home big wins in MLS NEXT academy play in Portland.

The U-16s were also in action locally, defeating a very good Surrey United SC U-17 team 3-0, who are 8W-1L-0D and leading their age group in the BC Soccer Premier League.

Pre-Girls Elite add to unbeaten week

The Pre-Girls Elite team played to a 1-1 draw against an older Surrey United SC ’07 team on Wednesday.

Next up for the Pre-Girls Elite team is a trip south to Oregon. They will be in Portland this weekend at the same time as both the Whitecaps FC MLS and MLS NEXT Pro squads, as they take on the NWSL Portland Thorns Academy.
