City of Vancouver declares July 3 Whitecaps FC Appreciation Day

The City of Vancouver and Mayor Ken Sim declared that July 3 will be known as Whitecaps FC Appreciation Day moving forward.

Mayor Sim made the announcement alongside councillor members, as well as Vancouver Whitecaps FC players and staff.

City of Vancouver Councillors Rebecca Bligh, Christine Boyle, Adriane Carr, Pete Fry, Sarah Kirby-Yung, Mike Klassen, Peter Meiszner, and Lenny Zhou were joined by 'Caps players including captain Russell Teibert, alternate captain Ryan Gauld, Ali Ahmed, Simon Becher and Ryan Raposo, as well as Whitecaps FC chief executive officer & sporting director Axel Schuster, head coach Vanni Sartini, chief commercial officer Aditi Bhatt, general counsel Manav Deol, vice president of finance Lisa Abbate, and club legends Bob Lenarduzzi and Carl Valentine.

The announcement comes following Vancouver’s second consecutive Canadian Championship, which was won last month in dramatic fashion against CF Montréal, and in advance of the club’s 10th Anniversary Pride Match at BC Place this Saturday, July 8.

Prior to the huge Cascadia Cup clash against Seattle Sounders FC, Whitecaps FC will host Vancouver’s largest drag happy hour ’Caps & Queens on the corner of Robson Street & Beatty Street. 'Caps & Queens starts at 3 p.m. PT and Whitecaps FC v Sounders FC will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. PT.
