Venue change for women's match on June 24, kickoff change for June 10

Coquitam W-League

Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that the Friday, June 24, women's match versus Pali Blues has been moved to Newton Athletic Park in Surrey, BC. The club also announced that the kickoff time for the Friday, June 10, match against LA Strikers – also at Newton Athletic Park– has been changed to 8 p.m. PT.

The June 24 women's match versus Pali Blues was originally scheduled for Whistler’s Myrtle Philip Field. However, logistical problems in Whistler meant Whitecaps FC needed a change of venue for this United Soccer League’s W-League regular season home match.

"We have a great relationship with Whistler Youth Soccer, and while we’re disappointed that we are unable to play in Whistler this year, we'll continue to work together on the possibility of another game in Whistler in the future," said Dan Lenarduzzi, Whitecaps FC director of soccer development. "We are, however, excited to play a second game in Surrey. With an 8 p.m. kickoff on June 10, and Canucks celebrations planned at Central City plaza, fans now have a great opportunity to enjoy each of these two excellent events."

"We were looking forward to hosting Vancouver Whitecaps FC, and while it didn’t work out this year, we’d love to partner at a future date to showcase Whitecaps FC women’s soccer in Whistler," said P.J. O'Heany, president of Whistler Youth Soccer Club.

Surrey, BC, will now be home to two W-League matches at Newton Athletic Park, both hosted by Surrey FC Pegasus. The June 10 match had been scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT, but with the potential of other exciting sporting events that evening, kickoff has now been moved to 8 p.m. PT. The June 24 match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. PT.
