REUNION, FL - Vancouver Whitecaps FC acquired goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois on loan from Montreal Impact, the club announced on Wednesday.

“We are very thankful to Olivier Renard and the Montreal Impact for their flexibility and support in loaning out Jonathan for our game tomorrow,” said Axel Schuster, CEO and sporting director of Whitecaps FC.

The 19-year old Québec product will be available for the ‘Caps match on Thursday morning versus Chicago Fire FC in the MLS is Back Tournament. Following the match, Sirois will rejoin the Montreal Impact.

“We are very appreciative for Montreal’s openness and understanding of our current situation,” added head coach Marc Dos Santos. “Our keeper coach Youssef Dahha is familiar with Jonathan from his time in Montreal and we are thankful we will have him on our bench for tomorrow’s crucial match against Chicago.”

Sirois signed his first MLS Homegrown contract last March after developing with the Montreal Impact Academy since 2015, playing for the U-15, U-17, and U-19 teams. He was invited to the Generation adidas International Elite Soccer Program in 2018.

On Tuesday, Whitecaps FC confirmed that goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau suffered a fractured left thumb during the second half of Sunday’s match against Seattle Sounders FC. Goalkeeper Bryan Meredith remains with his family in New Jersey following the sudden passing of his mother. Homegrown player Thomas Hasal came off the bench to replace Crépeau, making his MLS debut on Sunday.

Kickoff for the ‘Caps match versus Fire FC at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Walt Disney World is set for 6 a.m. PT on Thursday with live coverage on TSN and TSN 1040.
