Whitecaps FC launch MLS third kit

Just over two years after the launch of the club’s Major League Soccer (MLS) primary and secondary kits and just in time for Father’s Day, Vancouver Whitecaps FC unveiled today their third kit, as well as a line of ancillary pieces at a live show at BC Place. All pieces of the third kit draw on the fundamental feature of the club’s home turf – the forests of British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest.

The third kit is predominantly arbutus brown, with sky blue accents, which reflects the unique land full of deep roots and the high-reaching arms of the Douglas Fir, Western Red Cedar, Mountain Hemlock, Pacific Dogwood, Lodgepole Pine, and Sitka Spruce.

The third kit features a jersey, shorts, socks, and training top and jersey which will be worn by the ‘Caps MLS side three times this season – the first being this Saturday, June 16, when the ‘Caps host Western Conference rivals Colorado Rapids at 4 p.m. PT. Other pieces included in the line, which are available for purchase by fans, include t-shirts for men, women, and children, a hooded sweatshirt for men and children, two different styles of hats, a scarf, as well as the authentic jersey, and a replica jersey for children.

“We’re launching the third kit today because for the last 38 years, since the first Whitecaps FC match in 1974, our fans have told us about their fathers and grandfathers bringing them out to Empire Stadium, BC Place, Swangard Stadium, and more recently the newly renovated BC Place, to see a ‘Caps match,” said Bob Lenarduzzi, Whitecaps FC president.  “We believe that there is no better way to honour that tradition than by launching this new kit for Father’s Day. It’s a tribute to all the dads and father figures who have bonded with their kids over soccer, throughout the years. That’s an important part of what the game is all about.”

The ‘Caps three kits are all distinct but tie into the common features which make British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest unique. Whitecaps FC’s primary kit is glacier white with deep sea blue and silver accents, tying into the white caps of the local mountains, cresting waves, snow, and glaciers.  The ‘Caps secondary kit is deep sea blue with glacier white and silver accents, which reflects the ocean. The third kit is arbutus brown with sky blue accents, which reflects the forests of British Columbia.

Fans can purchase the third jersey and ancillary pieces at a kiosk set-up on Terry Fox Plaza at BC Place today until June 24 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. PT, as well as at Whitecaps FC home matches. Fans who purchase any third jersey will receive a primary (white) jersey of equal or lesser value for 50 per cent off.  This offer is valid at BC Place retail locations only. Some conditions apply.

The third kit will also be available online at mlsgearcanada.ca, and after June 25th, will be available at retailers who carry Whitecaps FC merchandise, including most Sport Chek locations.
