David Norman Jr.

PROFILE
A member of the club since the age of nine, David Norman Jr. signed his first professional contract with Whitecaps FC 2 on January 19, 2017, then was named the WFC2 Player of the Year in the annual WFC Player of the Year Awards. He signed his first MLS contract with Whitecaps FC on December 1, 2017, and was loaned in September 2018 to Scottish Championship side Queen of the South FC through the end of the year. Norman was loaned to Canadian Premier League club Pacific FC in September 2019, and traded to MLS expansion side Inter Miami CF effective 2020.

CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIP
2018: Norman made one start, making his first-team debut in the first leg of the semifinal series at Montreal Impact. 2017: Norman was called up to the first team in the CC but did not make an appearance.

WHITECAPS FC 2
2017: Norman started 25 of his 26 appearances in his first season as a professional, recording team-highs in assists (three), chances created (38), and duels won (144), while also finishing second on the team in tackles (59). He scored his first professional goal in WFC2's regular season finale.

NCAA
2016: Played one season at Oregon State University, leading the Beavers with five assists and adding two goals while starting 15 of his 17 appearances in his freshman year. Following the season, Norman turned pro with Whitecaps FC 2.

UNITED STATES SOCCER DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY
2015-16: Started 20 of his 26 appearances with the U-18 Residency team, helping the team to the Development Academy championship final. Scored a goal in the semifinals and recorded an assist in the only goal in the final in a 2-1 extra time defeat to FC Dallas. 2014-15: Started 28 of his 31 appearances for the U-16 Residency team, helping the side to the Development Academy quarterfinals. 2013-14: Recipient of the 2013 Whitecaps FC BMO RESP. Started 20 of his 25 appearances with U-16 Residency, scoring one goal. 2012-13: The Coquitlam, BC native started nine of his 15 appearances in the regular season for Whitecaps FC U-16 Residency, with his most recent start coming in a 2-1 home victory against Cal Odyssey on May 19, 2013.

VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC PROSPECTS
Between the ages of nine and 12, Norman was a member of Whitecaps FC Prospects, where he trained under Residency staff coach Bart Choufour. With ‘Caps Prospects, Norman made the final of the prestigious Surf Cup youth tournament in San Diego, California.

GERMAN BUNDESLIGA
2011-12: In the summer of 2011, Norman trained with the academy set-up of German Bundesliga club 1. FSV Mainz 05.

INTERNATIONAL
2018: Appeared in all four matches for Canada U-21 at the Festival International Espoirs Provence in France, making two starts. 2015: Called up to a January U-17 national team camp in Central America. 2014: Called up to two camps for Canada's U-17 men's national team, first in October in Panama, then in the United States in December. 2013: Norman was called up as part of a 30-player group assembled for a three-day prospects evaluation for the U-15 Canadian men’s national team. The camp was held from June 4 through June 6 in Montreal, Quebec. He was also named to Canada's Men's U-15 20-man roster for the 2013 Copa Mexico de Naciones which took place in Mexico City from August 10 to 18.

YOUTH/AMATEUR
Norman started his soccer career with Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club at the age of four. From the club’s initiation academy to gold level, Metro level, and the United Soccer Leagues Super Y-League, the midfielder has represented his hometown club with distinction. He twice represented Western Canada at the Danone Nations Cup and captained Canada’s Danone Nations Cup team at the 2010 event in South Africa.

PERSONAL
A native of Coquitlam, BC, Norman attended Riverview Park Elementary School in his hometown before progressing to Coquitlam’s Hillcrest Middle School. He later attended Dr. Charles Best Secondary School. The midfielder is the son of former Whitecaps FC and Canada midfielder David Norman Sr. His father played for the Blue and White during the North American Soccer League years of 1981 to 1984. He also played for the current club - when it was known then as Vancouver 86ers - from 1991 to 1996. This included a Canadian Soccer League championship title in 1991 and four seasons with the club in the old American Professional Soccer League (1993 to 1996). Norman sr. made a total of 171 appearances for Vancouver, scoring 16 goals. Norman’s father also scored once in 51 international appearances for the Canadian national team. This included appearances at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. Norman holds citizenship in both Canada and the United Kingdom.

INTERESTING FACTS
The midfielder is a big fan of Scottish giants Rangers FC, while his favourite player is Manchester United’s Serbian centre back Nemanja Vidic. Norman selected his favourite team's home field of Ibrox Stadium as a stadium he would like to play in one day. Outside of soccer, Norman enjoys hanging out with friends and family, while also playing a ton of other sports, and the video game FIFA. The midfielder’s favourite meal is steak.
