Career Summary

The 6-foot-3 centre back joined Vancouver Whitecaps FC after splitting his career between playing in his native Uruguay and in Spain with Malaga CF.

 

URUGUAY 

2014: Started seven times for Juventud in the 2014 Apertura and came off the bench as a substitute twice. Added an assist against IA Sud America on September 28. 2013: Rodríguez returned to Uruguay through a free transfer and began playing for Club Atlético Juventud de Las Piedras of the Uruguayan Primera Division. Started all 12 of his appearances in the Clausura season, scoring a goal against his first professional club, Montevideo Wanderers FC. 2010-11: In his second season with Wanderers FC, Rodríguez received his first professional start, lasting the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw with Miramar Misiones on December 4, 2010 marking his third and final appearance. 2009-10: A youth product of his hometown club Montevideo Wanderers FC, Rodríguez made his debut with the club’s first team on April 18, 2010 as a substitute in a 2-1 win against Tacuarembó. Rodríguez only appeared once more in his maiden season, as a substitute in a 2-2 draw with River Plate.

 

SPAIN 

2012-13: In his second season with Atlético Malagueño, Rodríguez scored three goals in 23 matches to help the Malaga reserve side reach a playoff promotion match after finishing fourth in the Tercera Division. 2011-12: Joining Malaga CF’s reserve side, Atlético Malagueño of the Tercera Division, Rodríguez played in 19 matches and scored two goals.

 

INTERNATIONAL

Rodríguez has represented Uruguay four times at the U-20 level. The Uruguayan suited up for his country during the Copa Aerosur held in Bolivia, Copa Ciudad Maldonado in Uruguay, and for two additional friendlies.

Diego Martin Rodríguez Telechea, born in Motevideo, Uruguay made his professional debut at the age of 19.
