PROFILE
A young Tunisian international beaming with potential, centre back Jasser Khmiri joined Whitecaps FC via transfer from Stade Tunisien in February 2019. Khmiri agreed to a three-year contract through 2021 with a club option for 2022.
In March 2021, Khmiri was loaned to San Antonio FC through the end of the 2021 USL Championship season.
MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER
2020: Khmiri started each of the 'Caps first five matches before being sidelined due to injury midseason. He recovered in time for his first cap for the Tunisian MNT in October but would not make another appearance as the 'Caps rounded out their season. Per 90 minutes, Khmiri finished with a team-high 5.8 clearances as well as 1.16 blocks, tied for second on the squad. 2019: Khmiri spent majority of the year rehabilitating his left knee following meniscus surgery in November 2018, then worked his way back to make his MLS debut in the thrilling 4-3 road victory at LA Galaxy on September 29. His 19 clearances was the most in a single regular season match by any MLS player since Kendall Waston in March 2017, and only Jay DeMerit has had more in a single MLS match in WFC history. It is the second-highest single-match total for a player making his MLS debut, behind Axel Sjoberg (22 at Philadelphia Union in March 2015).
TUNISIAN LIGUE PROFESSIONNELLE 1
2015-18: Khmiri made his professional debut at the age of 18 with Stade Tunisien in May 2016. He played three seasons with Stade Tunisien, collecting 38 appearances and scoring three goals including cup competition.
INTERNATIONAL
A native of Tunis, Tunisia, Khmiri burst onto the scene with outstanding performances at the youth level with the Tunisian national team. He was first called up to Tunisia’s senior national team in preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, including a camp in January 2018 in Qatar, then again in September of the same year. He made his senior debut in October 2020.
