New Burnaby Billet Families Needed

Whitecaps FC Residency team in action

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency program is based on a European model and is designed to maximize a player’s potential both on and off the field through a “soccer lifestyle” that links both technical and personal development. By integrating training, education and accommodation, all conveniently situated in Burnaby, Whitecaps Residency provides the perfect condition to develop and prepare elite athletes for the mental and physical demands of professional soccer.

In September 2011, Whitecaps FC Residency will grow from the current squad of 25 players in the U-17 to U-19 age range to teams in the U-14, U-16, and U-18 categories. With this expansion, the full-time Residency program will primarily be comprised of 80 of the top players from across British Columbia and Canada. Aspiring players can now enter the Whitecaps FC club system fulltime, as early as age 12, and be nurtured in an age appropriate learning environment, with gradational steps that will help them attain a successful professional and national team career.

With the expansion of the Residency program in September, Whitecaps FC Residency is looking for billet families in the Burnaby area to host new incoming soccer players.

Players who are selected for the Residency program from across Canada move to Burnaby BC to train full-time and continue their education at Burnaby Central Secondary School.

As a billet family, you will provide three nutritious meals per day, seven days a week, a dedicated room with a double bed (or larger) for the player where he will feel safe and comfortable, and a family environment which is a welcoming place in which the player can feel at home.  Billet families must also be located in the Burnaby region.

This is a unique and rewarding experience for any family as you have the opportunity to share the day-to-day life with a young player who is developing his professional soccer career and continuing his education. As a billet family you would receive financial compensation of $750 per month along with two season tickets to Whitecaps FC men’s and women’s matches.

All those interested are encouraged to apply. Billet families are vital to the success of the Residency program and are needed for September 2011.
