'Caps at College - Week 2

It’s week two of ‘Caps at College and our Blue and White brethren are picking up steam.

MEN

Declan Rodriguez has gotten his college career off to a flying start, scoring in his first two matches for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The first goal came in their season-opening defeat to Marquette University in the Milwaukee Cup, followed by another goal in their home opener, a 2-1 win over Northern Kentucky University.

Meanwhile, Ben McKendry’s New Mexico Lobos made a massive opening statement in their first match, upsetting the second ranked UCLA Bruins 3-2 in Los Angeles.

Fellow U-18 Residency alum Callum Irving made six saves in his collegiate debut, but his Kentucky Wildcats ultimately fell 4-3 in their season opener against Dayton.

Daniel Stanese has started his first two matches for Florida Gulf Coast. The first match was a tough defeat to the powerhouse University of Akron, followed by a closely contested 1-0 loss to No. 16 Georgetown.

On this side of the border, Residency alums Alex Rowley and Jason van Blerk continue preparations with SFU as they enter their first season as full members of the NCAA – the first Canadian school, and first non-American school, to ever do so.

WOMEN

Two ‘Caps got on the scoreboard for the Wisconsin Badgers in their last match, as both Monica Lam-Feist and Paige Adams scored in a 4-0 win over Loyola-Chicago.

Brandi Vega also scored and Gurveen Clair posted a shutout as Washington State earned a 6-0 win against Boise State last week.

Erin Uchacz got on the scoreboard last week to help her Oregon State Beavers defeat Portland State 2-1 and get off to a 3W-0L-0D record.

Goalkeeper Erin McNulty made four saves to preserve the shutout for Penn State in their 5-0 win over Central Michigan.

Former Girls Elite player Lindsay Johansen saw 90 minutes last week for Arkansas State in their 1-0 win over Murray State.

Fellow ‘Caps alum Lucielle Kozlov gets ready to kick off her college career at Dartmouth in the Sunshine State this weekend.

Keeping on the Girls Elite front, Elise Wyatt helped her Depaul squad get a 1-0 win against Valparaiso last week.

Finally, with seven strong representing the ‘Caps, UBC got back to winning ways on Wednesday with a 5-1 win against Langara.
