Whitecaps FC mourn the loss of former club owner and long-time supporter Wendy McDonald

Vancouver Whitecaps FC honour former club owner and long-time supporter Wendy McDonald who passed away on Sunday, December 30 at the age of 90.

Wendy was one of the original founding investors for Vancouver Whitecaps FC in 1974 and throughout the years has continued to be an advocate for the organization and the sport in this province and country.

“Wendy has been a  true ambassador, entrepreneur, and philanthropist who made a huge impact on the community,” said Bob Lenarduzzi, Whitecaps FC president. “She remained involved with the club, contributing generously to the Whitecaps Foundation and serving on the Foundation’s Net Works Committee. She leaves behind a legacy which will continue to inspire generations to come.”

McDonald, a native of British Columbia, was born and raised in North Vancouver.  As one of the original founding investors for Whitecaps FC, the former head of The BC Bearing Group helped get the ball rolling for the club in 1974. She was known for her savvy and strength of character, and was always well ahead of her time, which included having the foresight to share in a vision of what professional soccer could become here in BC.

Whitecaps FC wish to offer condolences to the McDonald family at this difficult time.
