Whitecaps FC Reserves defeat SFU Clan

VANCOUVER, BC – On a cold and dreary Tuesday night, Vancouver Whitecaps FC defeated SFU Clan by a score of 3-1. Striker Corey Hertzog had two goals, while midfielder Russell Teibert had the other in front of a loud crowd at UBC’s Thunderbird Stadium.

Just nine minutes in, a Greg Klazura shot was stopped by Clan goalkeeper Simon Cohen, however striker Corey Hertzog was there to tap in the rebound.

Quickly, SFU equalized on 15 minutes with a tap-in from striker Carlo Basso off a Chris Bargholz header that bounced off the post.

In the 28th minute, Teibert had an opportunity to put the ‘Caps up again, however, his shot was well saved as Cohen pushed it wide for a corner. Off that corner, Paulo Jr. sent the ball in that was flicked on by Hertzog onto Teibert. This time the young Canadian made no mistake and blasted the ball home to give the ‘Caps the lead again.

Just minutes later, speedster Kekuta Manneh made some quick moves around the SFU defenders and had a chance to increase the lead for the Blue and White, but his low shot went just wide.

In the dying minutes of the first half, Corey Hertzog made a quick pass to Manneh, who passed it right back to Hertzog and the Reading, Pennsylvania, native found the back of the net for the second time in the half.

The first half contained lots of back and forth action, while the second half action proved to be in favour of the Blue and White.

On 55 minutes, Greg Klazura's cross found Hertzog in the box but his header hit the crossbar and stayed out.

Whitecaps FC pressed hard for the remainder for the second half and had several chances to increase their lead, however the Blue and White were unable to increase their lead and the match ended with a final score of 3-1.
