Whitecaps FC reserves draw University of Washington 1-1

VANCOUVER, BC – On a clear, warm night at UBC’s Thunderbird Stadium, Vancouver Whitecaps FC Reserves earned a 1-1 draw against University of Washington Huskies.

The first half opened with lots of play in the middle of the pitch, with both sides trading opportunities to enter the opponent’s final third.
On 17 minutes, the ‘Caps nearly had a chance to take the lead when Darren Mattocks broke in alone on Huskies goalkeeper Spencer Richey, however his shot fell just wide.
In the 31st minute, Ghanaian midfielder Aminu Abdallah scored to give the ‘Caps a 1-0 lead off of a pass from rookie Kekuta Manneh, while Omar Salgado had the second assist.

The start of the second half saw two substitutions made with striker Caleb Clarke coming on for Darren Mattocks and Bryce Alderson coming on for Gershon Koffie.
In the 68th minute, Caleb Clarke had a chance to increase the Blue and White’s lead after Greg Klazura’s cross fell into the box, but the young Canadian international’s header went off the post and out.
Just minutes later, in the 72nd minute, the Huskies scored to equalize when midfielder James Moberg stole the ball and shot it into an open net to level the match at 1-1.
Following some more back and forth play, the match finished in a 1-1 draw.
Next up, Whitecaps FC Reserves take on Colorado Rapids Reserves on Tuesday, May 7, at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
