VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC Reserves (2W-0L-3D) are set to host Seattle Sounders FC Reserves (1W-3L-1D) in Langley as part of the BC Soccer Provincial Youth Championships. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. PT at Willoughby Community Park, next to the Langley Events Centre. Updates will be provided on Twitter via @WhitecapsMatch.

The match is an activation as part of the partnership between BC Soccer and Whitecaps FC, which will see the Reserves play their match amidst the Provincial Youth Soccer Championships.

Fans attending the reserve match are encouraged to bring chairs, as seating in stands will be limited.

WHITECAPS FC

The ‘Caps Reserves are coming off of a 1-1 draw with United Soccer Leagues Professional Division (USL PRO) side Richmond Kickers on June 22 in Richmond, Virginia. The lone goal for the Blue and White came from Kekuta Manneh, with Kickers’ leading scorer Joseph Ngwenya netting the equalizer for the home side.

Undefeated so far, the Reserves hold a record of 2W-0L-3D in the 2013 MLS Reserve League regular season. A big reason for this is the scoring ability of Tommy Heinemann, who has eight goals in reserve matches, and the strong defensive play of the ‘Caps backline, including the likes of Greg Klazura and South African Ethen Sampson.

Whitecaps FC assistant coach Paul Ritchie will lead the Reserves on Sunday.

SOUNDERS FC

Sounders FC have had a disappointing start to the season, holding a record of 1W-3L-1D and currently sitting in last place in the Western Conference.

Most recently, the Rave Green are coming off of a 2-1 loss to Chivas USA Reserves. The only goal for the Sounders was an own goal deflected in by Chivas USA defender Steven Purdy.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

In their previous matchup, on June 1, 2012, the ‘Caps defeated the Sounders by a score of 2-1 at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Washington. Both Whitecaps FC goals came from centre back Carlyle Mitchell, who is currently with Trinidad and Tobago for the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

All-time, the Blue and White hold a record of 2W-1L-1D in Reserve League play against the Sounders.

NEXT UP

Following this meeting of rivals, the ‘Caps travel to Sandy, Utah on Tuesday, July 16 to face Real Salt Lake Reserves at America First Field.
