Preparations for 2014 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup continue as Canada holds first camp of 2014

With the world’s best young women’s players soon to arrive in Canada, those hoping to crack Canada’s women’s U-20 team for the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup have their first chance to impress for the year.

Among the 18 players called up to Canada’s women’s U-20 team for their first camp of 2014 are Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite goalkeeper Priya Sandhu and former Girls Elite players Emma Fletcher and Summer Clarke.

“We are really pleased with the progress of the program as a whole over 2013 as we have been able to provide a lot of quality time in our environment to our most promising players,” said head coach of Canada’s women’s U-20 team Andrew Olivieri. “We have had about a dozen players bridge multiple environments across age groups and consider this a positive sign as the players showing the most talent are receiving accelerated development.”

The team will train in Burnaby from February 16-27 for their first camp of 2014, as Olivieri begins the all-important preparations in advance of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014.

“This camp will focus on progressing the core of the team to another level while immersing a couple new players into the culture as we move closer to our final preparations for Canada 2014.”

The camp concludes just two days before the draw for the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup takes place in Montreal on March 1.

Canada opens competition on August 5 in Toronto. They’ll remain in Toronto for their second game on August 8 before heading to the Olympic Stadium in Montreal to round out the group stage on August 12.
