WATCH: The 'wet bandits' strike again

Wet Bandits

VANCOUVER, BC – “Beware of the wet bandits.”

That's the message Pa-Modou Kah had for his teammates on Thursday at training, after Marco Bustos became the latest victim of the dreaded birthday shower.

It was Bustos’ 19th birthday on Wednesday, which was an off day for the first team. But Kah and his partner in crime Steven Beitashour didn’t let him off the hook on Thursday, as you can see from this fantastic sequence of photos from club photographer Bob Frid.

Talk about being in the right place at the right time.

If you haven’t noticed, the ‘Caps birthday showers have very much become a team tradition this season. It all started with Jordan Harvey’s birthday in preseason, according to Beitashour.

“I knew it was his birthday so I was telling a couple people that we should do something," he told whitecapsfc.com. “Then Kah and I decided to dump ice water on him. It really just started with that.”

Since then, Beitashour and Kah have got the best of Aidan (who helps out with the equipment staff), Mauro Rosales, Robert Earnshaw, Kianz Froese, and now Bustos – club physiotherapist Graeme Poole also got the shower on Thursday. And that's only what I've seen.

“Now, if it’s someone’s birthday, everyone is telling us that we have to keep the streak alive,” Beitashour said. “It’s nice because we don’t have to keep track of everyone’s birthday. Someone just tells us and we take care of the rest.”

Kah and Beitashour are now calling themselves the “wet bandits.”

“Like Marv and Harry from Home Alone,” Beitashour laughed.
