VANCOUVER, BC – There were plenty of standout performances in Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s 4-0 win over Real Salt Lake on Saturday night at BC Place.
Cristian Techera stole the headlines – and rightfully so after notching a second-half brace. Nicolas Mezquida was excellent again in his fourth straight start. And we can’t go on without mentioning centre back Pa-Modou Kah, who all of a sudden has three goals in his last two games.
But one player who put in a particularly strong shift from start to finish was Jordan Harvey.
The 31-year-old left back typically flies under the radar (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing for a defender) – but not on this night.
Harvey made a concerted effort of getting forward and joining the attack from the opening whistle. You can see that from his heat map below (courtesy of Squawka).
And Harvey's forward-thinking play paid off with his first two assists of the season. The second was a little bit of a fluke (he might tell you otherwise), but you can’t say the same about this one.

Harvey led the team with three chances created and 19 successful passes in the opposing half. The graphic below shows his successful passes on Saturday compared to his last home game (July 12 vs. SKC). The difference is palpable.
