Major League Soccer announced today that Vancouver Whitecaps FC goalkeeper David Ousted finished second to New York’s Luis Robles in voting for the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.

The winner was decided by three voting groups: current MLS players; MLS clubs (coaches, technical directors, chief business officers and PR directors); and media members who consistently covered the 2015 MLS regular season.

Ousted finished second in the media and player vote and third in the club vote.

Goalkeeper of the Year or not, Ousted had a remarkable season for the Blue and White. The Danish shot-stopper manned the net for a Whitecaps FC side that conceded the fewest goals in MLS (tied with Seattle Sounders FC). He also had 13 clean sheets (tied for the league-high), 16 wins (second in MLS), and three penalty saves (league-high).

For his efforts, Ousted was an MLS All-Star for the first time – he kept a second-half clean sheet against Tottenham Hotspur.

He was also a four-time MLS Save of the Week winner, the MLS Player of the Month for June (the only goalkeeper to receive the honour this season), and has four saves up for MLS Save of the Year, including a diving, goalline stop on Philadelphia’s Andrew Wenger that may just be the favourite.

Ousted, who played every minute of every MLS match for the 'Caps this season, was one of three Whitecaps FC finalists for Major League Soccer’s year-end awards.

Centre back Kendall Waston was the runner-up for MLS Defender of the Year, while Carl Robinson is up for MLS Coach of the Year along with Jesse Marsch (New York Red Bulls) and Oscar Pareja (FC Dallas).

The MLS Coach of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, November 24 and the MLS Best XI will be announced on Sunday, November 29.
