Travel day - Kah, Kudo, Chung, Davies

'Caps touch down in Tucson after eventful travel day; Aird joins the team

TUCSON, ARIZONA – The ‘Caps have touched down in Tucson.

Sunday was travel day for Vancouver Whitecaps FC, who will spend 10 days in Tucson as part of the 2016 Desert Friendlies, and it was an eventful one to say the least.

For two players in particular.

WFC2 fullback Kadin Chung, 17, and Whitecaps FC Residency forward Alphonso Davies, 15, are the two youngest players in camp. Unfortunately for the promising pair, resident prankster Pa-Modou Kah was keenly aware of that fact. So there they were, doing sprints and squats in the airport with GoPros attached to their heads.

“Do you want to come to Arizona or not?” Kah joked as he encouraged Davies to keep running.

That wasn’t the end of it.

Once we were up in the air, the flight crew announced that “two special guests” would be coming down the aisle to serve water.

Guess who?

Applause ensued as Chung and Davies appeared – with stewardess scarves wrapped around their necks.

They handled it like champs. Let’s just hope they don’t switch professions, because there’s a reason they’re with the first team in Arizona.

LONG JOURNEY

It’s been a busy couple days for Fraser Aird.

The recently-acquired Canadian international flew in to Vancouver from Scotland (via London) on Saturday. It was over 10 hours in travel. Then, he underwent his entry medical with the Whitecaps FC medical staff before meeting with head coach Carl Robinson.

He wasn’t able to fall asleep until 4 a.m.

Four-and-a-half hours later, there he was at YVR meeting his new teammates for the first time.

Something tells me he will sleep just fine tonight.

DOWN TO BUSINESS

The ‘Caps, who had a light recovery session upon their in arrival in Tucson, will begin on-field training on Monday. Their first preseason match is set for Wednesday against Seattle Sounders FC (4 p.m. PT).
