Four 'Caps called up to Canada U-20 for friendly versus England

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed today that Residency products Marco Bustos, Marco Carducci, Kadin Chung, and Alphonso Davies have been called up to the Canadian U-20 men's national team for an upcoming camp and international friendly versus England U-20.

"This is an additional opportunity to bring together our exceptional young players," said Rob Gale, Canada Soccer men’s U-20 national team head coach. "We selected players from a range of different ages so that we could benefit this group with a key development opportunity through a high-level opposition."

The Canadian team will travel to England on Monday, March 21, with the eight-day camp taking place during the FIFA window for international competition.

Canada and England previously played each other in a U-20 international friendly in November 2014 in Bournemouth, with Carducci and Bustos featuring in the 2-2 draw.

Carducci and Bustos will miss the MLS home match versus Houston Dynamo on Saturday, March 26, while Chung and Davies will be unavailable for the Whitecaps FC 2 season opener at Orange County Blues FC on the same day.

Carducci, 19, featured for Canada at the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship in Jamaica, allowing four goals in his two starts in the tournament, including Canada's 3-1 opening win over Haiti. A two-time Canadian U-17 Player of the Year, Carducci allowed only one goal in 105 minutes this past preseason with the first team, helping the 'Caps to two wins. Last season, the Calgary native started nine matches for Whitecaps FC 2 in their inaugural season in the United Soccer League, finishing with a team-best 1.67 goals against average.

Bustos, 19, played alongside Carducci in the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, making five tournament appearances and scoring a goal in their 3-2 loss to Honduras. The Winnipeg-born midfielder made his senior international debut in the 1-1 friendly draw versus Ghana last October, which was followed by his MLS debut at FC Dallas on the following evening. He also appeared in three CONCACAF Champions League matches for Whitecaps FC, while finishing the 2015 USL season with a team-high seven goals in 17 matches for Whitecaps FC 2, and earning three USL Team of the Week selections.

Chung, 17, previously participated in a training camp with the Canadian U-20 team in Toronto last September 2015. He made his professional debut for WFC2 in September 2015, while also leading Whitecaps FC U-16 Residency with 34 starts in 35 total appearances in the 2014-15 United States Soccer Development Academy season. The 2015 Canadian U-17 Player of the Year also participated in the first team's preseason training camp this past February.

Davies, who at 15 years old is the youngest invitee, has been called up three times to Canada’s U-15 national team, and once to the U-18 national team in October 2015. He became the youngest player in the USL when he signed with Whitecaps FC 2 on February 2016 and was with the club’s first team at the 2016 preseason training camp in Tucson, Arizona and Portland, Oregon. In that time, Davies appeared in all three matches at the 2016 Desert Friendlies, recording a game-winning assist versus Houston Dynamo. He is currently playing for the Whitecaps FC U-16 Residency team.

The roster also includes former Whitecaps FC Residency players Duwayne Ewart and Dario Zanatta
