#Performance powered by BDO: Jordan Smith sets new Whitecaps FC record

Jordan Smith vs. Houston Dynamo

Jordan Smith got stuck in on Saturday afternoon at BC Place.

Eleven times, in fact.

The Costa Rican’s 11 tackles were a game-high and the most a Vancouver Whitecaps FC player has recorded in a single match since joining Major League Soccer in 2011, surpassing Matias Laba who twice had 10 tackles in a match.

To put that number into further context, only four times has a player recorded more tackles since Opta started tracking MLS in 2011.

See below for a sample of the defender’s work.

“I thought he was very strong in his performance," said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson. "Jordan probably hasn’t played as many times as he probably would have liked, due to Fraser Aird coming in the team and doing very well. When you get your opportunity you’ve got to take it and I thought he certainly took it today. He was positive, especially in the second half. He was quite brave in his decisions and he put a number of good balls into the box, so it was a strong performance by Jordan.”
