Whitecaps FC add three players to Amway Canadian Championship roster for Wednesday's semifinal second leg

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC have added three players to their Amway Canadian Championship roster ahead of Wednesday’s decisive semifinal second leg vs. Ottawa Fury FC at BC Place (7 p.m. PT on TSN2 and TSN 1040 radio – tickets still available).

Joining the 23-man roster are midfielders Matias Laba and Pedro Morales, as well as goalkeeper David Ousted.  Captain Morales, who leads Whitecaps FC with six goals and three assists in league play so far this season, played a big part in Vancouver’s first-ever Voyageurs Cup in 2015, recording two goals and an assist in three matches.

Laba was also heavily involved, scoring a stoppage-time game winner in the second leg of the semifinal vs. FC Edmonton, while Ousted started the championship final.

Fifteen-year-old Alphonso Davies, who is on a short-term call-up from Whitecaps FC 2, remains the only non-MLS player on the roster. Per tournament rules, clubs are able to name up to 30 players to the tournament roster and can add names up to 48 hours prior to kickoff.

After a 2-0 loss to Ottawa Fury FC in the first leg of the semifinal last week at TD Place Stadium, Whitecaps FC will need to win by at least three goals or in a penalty shootout if the series is tied 2-2 after extra time to advance to the tournament final. The Amway Canadian Championship is a five-team tournament that crowns the top team in Canada. In addition to qualifying for the CONCACAF Champions League, the winner also takes home the supporters-created Voyageurs Cup (which was first awarded in 2002).

Last year, the ‘Caps won their first-ever Voyageurs Cup after 13 years of heartbreak, defeating Montreal 4-2 on aggregate in the tournament final.
