For the second time this year, Jake Nerwinski has been named to the MLS Team of the Week.

The rookie right back earned the honours after recording two assists and a game-high seven clearances in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Real Salt Lake at BC Place.

First, Nerwinski delivered a perfect low cross to Cristian Techera, who opened the scoring in the 29th minute. Then, he helped set up the eventual game-winner in the 64th minute, winning the ball off Joao Plata before feeding Bernie Ibini, whose powerful cross was met by a diving Yordy Reyna header at the back post. Reyna, for his efforts, made the MLS Team of the Week bench.

Nerwinski, who Whitecaps FC selected seventh overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, now has three assists in 12 MLS regular season appearances this season.

Whitecaps FC are right back at it on Wednesday night against Minnesota United FC (7 p.m. PT at BC Place – tickets still available). A ‘Caps win would move them into the top spot in the Western Conference.
