Alphonso Davies and Thomas Hasal called up to the Canada U-23 camp in preparation for Tokyo 2020 Olympics

'Caps for Canada - Davies - Hasal

VANCOUVER, BC - Canada Soccer kick off the calendar year with a 10-day training camp featuring U-23 players eligible for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, including Vancouver Whitecaps FC first-team midfielder Alphonso Davies and Residency U-19 goalkeeper Thomas Hasal, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

The call-up marks the first invite to the U-23 national side for the 'Caps duo.

The Canada U-23 camp runs January 9-18 in Orlando, FL with exhibition matches against local side S.I.M.A. and Colombia’s Club Atlético Nacional. The Canada squad features players born 1997 or later with professional clubs in Canada, USA, and Europe.

Davies, who was honoured with the 2017 Canadian U-17 Player of the Year last December, made his senior national team debut last June, and now has three goals in six caps to his name. He took home the Best Young Player, Golden Boot, and Best XI honours at the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup after becoming the youngest goalscorer in the history of both the Canadian men's national team and the tournament.

Hasal returns to international duty after most recently featuring for Canada in the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, where he recorded one clean sheet in his three starts. He also took part in a pair of Canada U-20 camps last year on home soil and in Mexico, after earning his first national team invite in the U-18 level in 2016.
