Hwang called up for WCQ versus Lebanon, high-profile friendly versus Brazil

Inbeom Hwang - South Korea - international call-up

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Inbeom Hwang has been called up to the Korea Republic men’s national team for a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying road match versus Lebanon on November 14, then a high-profile friendly versus Brazil in Abu Dhabi four days later.

Korea Republic and Democratic People's Republic of Korea are deadlocked atop of Group H with seven points apiece, with Lebanon just behind by a point. Turkmenistan have three points, and Sri Lanka have yet to tally a point in the five-team group.

The eight group winners and the four best group runners-up advance to the third round of FIFA World Cup qualification as well as qualify for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

Brazil called up a strong roster for the neutral-site Brasil Global Tour friendly in the United Arab Emirates, including the likes of Bayern Munich's Philippe Coutinho and Liverpool FC's Roberto Firmino.

Hwang finished his first MLS season with three goals and five assists in 31 starts and 34 appearances, and was honoured with the club’s Most Promising Male Player award. The Daejeon native has one goal in 18 caps since making his international debut in September 2018.
