VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Inbeom Hwang has been called up to the Korea Republic men’s national team for the final round of the 2019 EAFF E-1 Football Championship in December.
Pitting member nations of the East Asian Football Federation, the tournament is down to its final four national sides, with China PR, Japan, and host South Korea receiving automatic final bids, and Hong Kong earning qualification through the preliminary round.
South Korea face Hong Kong on December 11, China PR on December 15, and Japan on December 18 at Busan Asiad Stadium. The winner of the tournament earns the right to represent the region in the AFF-EAFF Champions Trophy match.
Hwang returns to international duty after collecting his 20th cap in a friendly versus Brazil on November 18. He has one goal for the Taeguk Warriors. He finished his first MLS season with three goals and five assists in 31 starts and 34 appearances, and was honoured with the club’s Most Promising Male Player award.
