Whitecaps FC announce preseason camp roster as 'Caps begin on-field training on Monday

VANCOUVER, BC - Whitecaps FC players reported for the start of the 2020 preseason camp this weekend, featuring 18 first-team players joined by eight other camp participants.


The first-team roster includes offseason acquisitions Lucas Cavallini, Cristian Dájome, Cristián Gutiérrez, and Generation adidas and MLS SuperDraft selection Ryan Raposo. Dájome, whose transfer was completed last Friday, is expected to join his new club in the coming days.


Joining the team from the Development Squad are goalkeeper Isaac Boehmer, centre back Gianfranco Facchineri, and midfielder Patrick Metcalfe.


Also taking part are goalkeeper and MLS SuperDraft pick Daniel Gagliardi, and camp invitees midfielder Rodrigo da Costa, right back Cole Dasilva, Canadian international centre back Amer Didić, and midfielder Aboubacar Sissoko. Da Costa most recently played for USL Championship side FC Tulsa, Dasilva for English Championship club Brentford FC reserves team, Didić for CPL club FC Edmonton, and Sissoko at the Université de Montréal. 


The club is continuing discussions with centre back Érik Godoy and his parent club Club Atlético Colón. Meanwhile, Michaell Chirinos, who spent the latter part of 2019 on loan with the 'Caps, has rejoined his parent club CD Olimpia. 


Camp commenced with a full day of medical, media, and marketing stations at the club's National Soccer Development Centre at UBC on Saturday, followed by on-field training sessions beginning on Monday.

The team departs for Southern California on Friday, where they play three games over 11 days, spending most of the camp in San Diego. The 'Caps play closed-door games on January 28, opponent to be announced later this week, and FC Dallas on February 1 at UC San Diego. Vancouver will wrap up this trip with a closed-door match against LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park on February 4. 


The team resumes training at the WFC NSDC at UBC from February 6 to 14, then depart for Portland for nine days, including friendlies versus Portland Timbers on February 16, New England Revolution on February 19, and Minnesota United FC on February 22, all at Providence Park.


The last leg of the preseason camp will be back home in Vancouver beginning February 25, as they make their final preparations ahead of their February 29 season opener versus Sporting Kansas City.
