SAN DIEGO, CA – Vancouver Whitecaps FC picked up their first win of the preseason on Saturday, defeating FC Dallas 4-1 at the University of California, San Diego.
Rookie Ryan Raposo, Ali Adnan, Russell Teibert, and Yordy Reyna provided the scoring for the 'Caps.
Raposo, who also scored in Vancouver’s preseason opener, struck first in the 21st minute, finishing a point-blank effort after Teibert forced a turnover with the high press.
Zdenek Ondrasek pulled one back for Dallas at the half-hour mark, but Adnan regained the lead for Vancouver five minutes later with a perfectly-placed free kick into the top right corner.
Teibert then doubled Vancouver’s advantage in the 39th minute, blasting home a left-footed strike from the top of the box, before Reyna added an insurance marker late with a cheeky chip over the goalkeeper.
Whitecaps FC head coach Marc Dos Santos went with a 4-2-3-1 formation on Saturday, featuring Lucas Cavallini as the centre forward, Raposo as the central attacking midfielder, and newcomers Cristian Dájome and David Milinković on the wings.
The ‘Caps concluded the match with an entirely new XI, with Reyna playing up top and Fredy Montero underneath as the #10. A total of 14 Canadians and six products of the Whitecaps FC BMO Academy System saw minutes.
