Whitecaps FC mourn the passing of Pam Glass

Pam Glass

Vancouver Whitecaps FC are mourning the passing of former public relations director, longtime press box manager, and member of the 'Caps family Pam Glass.

Glass was a familiar face in the Vancouver Whitecaps and 86ers media room for 21 years, having first started volunteering during the North American Soccer League days at Empire Stadium, supporting the club and the media up until 2007 at Swangard Stadium.

Glass would distribute roster sheets, game notes, as well as phone and fax game updates to the local, national, and international media outlets, helping grow the club to where it is now. Glass famously helped spread the word about the Vancouver 86ers incredible undefeated streak of 46-game - 37 wins and nine draws - during the 1988 and 1989 seasons.

"Pam was a very caring person and always interested in others' well-being. She never hesitated to help and assist with whatever was needed. She endeared herself with a lot of people," said club liaison Bob Lenarduzzi. "People associated Pam with gameday, and she and Carl Valentine even had a little tradition that she would bring a cup of tea down to the locker room at halftime of every home game."

"I actually got to know her even prior to her helping out at the club. I didn't know her at the time and was having a bit of a tough start to a season. Pam sent me a note saying 'keep your head up and everything would sort itself out' and it did," added Lenarduzzi.

Hailing from Malahide near Dublin, Ireland, Glass made significant impact in the South Surrey community as school board vice-chair, as well across British Columbia as director of Sport BC. In 2003, she was honoured as the Irish Women's Network (IWN) of BC Woman of the Year.

A celebration of Pam Glass' life will held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 15 at Star of the Sea Church, 1153 Fir Street, White Rock, BC.

Reception follows from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Rotary Field House in South Surrey Athletic Park, 2197 148th Street, Surrey, BC.

Pamela Frances Glass (October 23, 1929 - January 24, 2020) will be dearly missed by Whitecaps FC. The club offers sincere condolences to her family and friends during this time.
