VANCOUVER, BC – As part of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Grad Program, BMO – the Bank of Soccer in Canada – have stepped up to reward 10 deserving students with a Community Spirit Award and $1,000 Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP).

The 10 award winners were selected throughout British Columbia, with the award based on exceptional support for their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Recipients will be announced this month.

“We want to support the future success of students and help those that have given back to their communities during this pandemic,” said James Kitamura, regional president, personal banking, BMO Bank of Montreal. “A core purpose of our organization is looking for ways to drive positive change. We are proud to be working alongside Whitecaps FC to support these students’ futures.”

Whitecaps FC have been helping celebrate the Class of 2020 throughout the month of June, including a congratulations graphic on display at the big screen at Terry Fox Plaza, player video messages to schools, and upcoming digital content in the upcoming week to help make their graduation memorable.

“We are so proud to be a part of this amazing community,” said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director and chief executive officer. “This incredible initiative from our partners at BMO is a fitting salute to the many young people who stepped up to help and support their fellow citizens during this pandemic.”
