Getting to know: Bryan Meredith

He might just be the most interesting man on the roster.

In this week's edition of Getting to Know, presented by GE Appliances, we learn more about Bryan Meredith.

Who was your favourite soccer player growing up?

Ever since I started playing the goalkeeper position, Oliver Kahn has been my favourite player. I’ve just always loved the tenacity and passion that he played every game with.

If you weren’t a soccer player, what do you think you would be?

If I wasn’t a soccer player, I would either be a goalkeeping coach or the owner of a breakfast restaurant. Bmer’s Breakfast - I’ve already worked out a few menu items!

Who’s your celebrity lookalike?

The celebrity lookalike that I’ve gotten the most is probably Prince Harry.

Which actor would you pick to play your character if they made a movie about you?

If I got to pick who would play me in a movie, I’d probably pick Leo DiCaprio.

What’s your Zoom background?

I don’t usually use a Zoom background but if I had to it would probably be a picture of my dog Bob Barker.

What’s a local business you would like to give a shoutout during this time?

I’d like to shout out Grounds for Coffee. I live by there and their cinnamon buns are a delicious treat after a hard week of working out.

If you were to write a novel, what would the plot be?

I’ve actually already wrote a book in the second grade called The Kung-fu Bunnies. I don’t know if the literary world could handle a sequel to that.

What’s your go-to quarantine meal?

My favourite quarantine meal would have to be ropa vieja with fried plantains.

What’s your favourite TV show?

My favourite TV show would have to be The Office. I throw it on in the background almost daily.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Dessert. I have a sweet tooth and a good chocolate chip cookie is so hard to pass up.

What’s a nickname your teammates have called you?

I’ve had a few nicknames but my favourite is from high school. The upperclassmen called me Alvin because I had chubby cheeks.

What is the biggest challenge you've ever had to face?

The biggest challenge I’ve had to overcome would be my learning disabilities. Dealing with ADD in school was always hard and I would have to find creative ways to help motivate myself to learn different subjects. This was my biggest challenge and also what I’m most proud of.

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

My go-to karaoke song is Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye.

Which MLS player do you hope to swap jerseys with?

He’s now retired but Tim Howard would have been cool. I grew up not too far from his hometown and I’ve always looked up to him.
