Whitecaps FC loan forward David Egbo to Phoenix Rising FC

David Egbo loan 2021

VANCOUVER, BC
– Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Thursday that the club has loaned forward David Egbo to Phoenix Rising FC.
The 22-year old Nigerian native will be joining the USL Championship side through the end of the 2021 USL Championship season – pending the receipt of his visa. The loan includes an option to recall the forward.
“We always consider what is the right platform for a player to get the minutes they need,” said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director and chief executive officer. “David hasn’t played for more than a year now and was still recovering from a previous injury. This is a win-win situation, Phoenix gets a good young forward, David will get minutes, and we have a call back option.”

Egbo was selected ninth overall by Whitecaps FC in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft. He played three seasons at the University of Akron, collecting 21 goals and 13 assists in 35 starts and 56 appearances.
Phoenix Rising FC currently sit atop the Pacific Division table with a 3W-1L-0D record. The regular season runs through October 30. The top four teams in each division will qualify for the 2021 USL Championship Playoffs.
While on loan, Egbo will not occupy an international roster spot on Vancouver’s roster. Whitecaps FC currently hold 11 international slots through 2021 and have 10 international players on the active roster.
