New book by former 'Caps player Alan Hinton

Alan Hinton story

As Vancouver Whitecaps FC get set to face rivals Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday, a former member of both clubs has released a new book, Triumph and Tragedy: The Alan Hinton Story.

Hinton has been involved in professional football for more than 60 years. He grew up in Wednesbury, England. He made his debut for England at the age of 19 and played over 400 matches for Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest, and Derby County. He won two first division league championships with Derby in 1971-72 and 1974-75.

With the 'Caps, Hinton had an NASL record 30 assists in a season, and acted as a player-coach.

Following his retirement, he coached Seattle Sounders from 1980-82, then again in 1994, before later becoming an analyst.

Hinton's story also dives into his life off the field, including the devastation of the death of his nine-year-old son.
