The Whitecaps FC mission is To Unite and Inspire Our Communities. To help reach this objective, the club is looking for a qualified and passionate individual to fill the role of Manager, Accounting and Finance.

In this position you will have overall responsibility for full-cycle accounting for the Club. The Manager will also be directly supervising our Junior Accountant.

How you will contribute:

  • Manage all accounting operations including invoicing, accounts receivable and accounts payable processes, all in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Manage the reconciliation of all revenue streams on a daily, weekly or game by game basis, including ticketing, soccer development, licensed merchandise and sponsorship.
  • Prepare and submit all Major League Soccer team financial reporting.
  • Be the primary contact for our banking relationships, including foreign currency management, as well as ICBC for our fleet and company owned vehicles.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for the Club’s Canadian and US Dollar bank accounts.
  • Manage the submission and compilation of our annual corporate budgeting and quarterly forecast update process through our online BI integration platform – Vena Solutions.
  • Monitor trends in revenues and expenses and alert the Vice-President, Finance and Administration of any variances from the budget.
  • Settlement, recognition and accounting for the any value-in-kind sponsorship received by the Club.
  • Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and assisting in the preparation of necessary documentation for external audits and reviews.
  • Consistently evaluate company processes and pro-actively encourage adoption of best practices in this area and develop and document current business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Oversee the preparation and administration of the Club’s regulatory compliance requirements for GST, PST and withholding tax remittances and filings.
  • Design and produce periodic reports to help manage adherence to budget or other requested financial analysis.
  • Other duties may evolve based on the aptitudes and interests of the individual and the needs of the Club.

What are we looking for:

  • 3-5 years accounting experience in full cycle accounting in a medium-sized business setting.
  • Completion or near completion of a recognized CPA accounting designation or equivalent is preferred
  • Preference will be given to those that have experience with the following software packages or systems:  Simply Accounting, Vena Solutions, Ticketmaster Archtics, Tableau.
  • General proficiency in the Microsoft office suite of applications, especially Excel.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Highly organized with a demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability.
  •  “Team” attitude with desire to pitch in to overall Club operations to ensure we always deliver the best experience possible for our fans and customers.
  • The ability to travel to the National Soccer Development Centre at UBC as well as working evenings and weekends as required.

Coordinator, Events & Community

The Whitecaps FC mission is To Unite and Inspire Our Communities. To help reach this objective, the club is looking for a qualified and passionate individual to fill the role of Coordinator, Events & Community.

The Coordinator, Events and Community will lead the ‘Caps Crew and will oversee game day staff on match days.  They will assist with elements related to game presentation and production and will also assist with the operation of the Club’s new fan development vehicle, the ‘Caps Cruiser. 

How you will contribute:

Develop streamlined, efficient and effective event operations processes

  • Coordinate the execution of event operations to ensure all MLS matches run as smoothly as possible
  • Prepare accreditation for Whitecaps FC matches
  • Perform administrative duties for match day success such as collecting and relaying parking requirements for the club, keeping detailed inventory records, managing staffing records and facilitating match day accreditation and activation requirements for other departments within the organization
  • Act as match day staff coordinator
  • Ensure MLS and club policies and procedures are adhered to at all times, including, but not limited to, stadium fire regulations, public and personal security and safety guidelines, supporter relations, crowd management, customer service, etc.
  • Assist with pre and post-match conversions of BC Place
  • Assist with building the experiences on ‘Caps Kickoff and on the concourse at BC Place

‘Caps Crew program

  • In conjunction with the Manager, Event Operations, shape the ‘Caps Crew program, inclusive of recruitment, hiring, training, development and maintenance
  • Conduct ongoing program evaluation
  • Arrange orientation sessions and social and end of season appreciation events
  • Build and improve match day operations through scheduling and on-going communication with the ‘Caps Crew
  • Generate ways to keep volunteers and part-time seasonal staff motivated and engaged through the season

Game presentation and production

  • Manage the match-day activation team to ensure the fulfillment of in-match entertainment elements including contests, promotions and live hits with special guests
  • Assist in the planning, coordination and implementation of in-stadium match related activities
  • Create and plan match day movement plans
  • Research, evaluate, and create new and innovative ideas and concepts with regards to improving match presentation and the overall stadium experience
  • Assist with set-up of game presentation elements

Other

  • Assist with the operations of the ‘Caps Cruiser, the Club’s new community events focused fan development vehicle
  • Assist with department initiatives and projects as needed
  • Act as the Events lead on other club driven events as assigned
  • Act as a backup to the Manager, Event Operations
  • Other related duties as required or assigned

What are we looking for:

  • 1 to 2 years of relevant experience is an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.

Senior Sponsorship Sales Manager

The Whitecaps FC mission is To Unite and Inspire Our Communities. To help reach this objective, the club is looking for a qualified and passionate individual to fill the role of Senior Sponsorship Sales Manager.

In this role, you will deliver on aggressive sales targets and to continuously generate leads to grow sponsorship, and advertising revenue through cold calling, generating new leads and managing the sales pipeline for sponsorship.  

You can be either based in Vancouver BC or Toronto ON.  Travel would be up to one week every couple of months

How you will contribute:

  • Generate new sponsorship revenue through partnership and advertising sales for both Whitecaps FC (MLS), including the club’s growing soccer development programs.
  • Play a key role in filling the sponsorship new business pipeline year-round by researching identified prospects and creating a detailed sales strategy for each – focusing on mid to high six figure and low seven figure deal.
  • Work with the Partnerships team to initiate and grow sustainable client relationships.
  • Generate new corporate revenue by identifying prospective clients and strategic partners through various channels.
  • Create, organize and maintain sponsor and advertiser contracts as well as other legal documents.
  • Assist in the creation and management of the organization’s sales process and strategies for sponsorship.
  • Help define and establish new sponsorship properties within the organization, in partnership with colleagues and other internal departments.
  • Prepare proposals, presentations and reports for the Director, Corporate Partnerships and other club executives.
  • Keep up to date with current developments in the sports marketing industry (specifically sponsorship and corporate hospitality) and utilize this information to guide strategy for potential new proposals and properties.
  • Maintain an up-to-date and working knowledge of soccer, the MLS and Whitecaps FC as well as the competitive landscape in Canada, North America and around the globe.
  • Collaborate and work closely with Partnership Marketing (i.e. sponsorship servicing) to assist in delivery of contractual partnership elements, events and match day hosting opportunities including coordination of corporate suites each match.
  • Other duties, as required and assigned.

What are we looking for:

  • 5+ years of relevant working experience with a successful track record in delivering on sales targets.
  • Comfort and experience with both cold calling and consultative sales.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting to, communicating and negotiating with senior-level and C-level executives
  • Exceptional relationship management (both internally and externally) and negotiation skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Strong experience crafting compelling and impactful sales presentations
  • Highly motivated individual with excellent problem-solving skills; able to meet challenging deadlines and aggressive financial targets.
  • Commitment to a team environment and working closely with others to ensure team success.
  • Proven ability to make critical decisions independently without supervision while being accountable for those decisions.
  • Attention to detail and a strong sales focus are essential.
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office and social media.

The following is preferred but not required:

  • Experience selling digital/online advertising
  • Experience working with Salesforce
  • Passion for sports and/or soccer

Operations Crew Member

The Whitecaps FC mission is To Unite and Inspire Our Communities. To help reach this objective, the club is looking for a qualified and passionate individual to fill the role of Operations Crew

This is a part time role that supports the operational deliverables at Vancouver Whitecaps FC, and auxiliary events throughout the Lower Mainland. The ideal candidate will be able to lift up to 60lbs independently, and have experience working in a labour intensive environment.

How you will contribute:

  • Working within a team of 15-20 event operations crew members to convert BC Place stadium to a Whitecaps FC branded stadium
  • Install field boards, signage and other brand elements
  • With direction from the Operations Supervisor, deliver on match-day requirements such as installation of seat wraps, partnership activations and field set-up
  • Support the movement, set-up and care of the event operations inventory
  • Deliver, set-up and tear down brand and soccer related elements (tents, flags, banners) at non-match day Whitecaps special events

What are we looking for:

  • Must work extremely well in a team environment
  • Willingness to learn and ability to take direction from others is required
  • Must be able to comfortably lift 60lbs
  • Attention to detail a must
  • Strong communication skills
  • Pro-active and resourceful outlook
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • This position will require weekend and evening work

Operations Crew team members will be scheduled in accordance with the Whitecaps FC home match schedule, with strong consideration given to performance.  It is requested that all Operations Crew members provide availability for at least 12 matches though there is no guarantee of shifts.

Internship, Practicum or Co-Op Placement Opportunity, Business Intelligence & CRM

Vancouver Whitecaps FC is more than just a professional soccer club. We’re a community of like-minded individuals with a passion for excellence both on and off the pitch.

We believe that data is transforming the way sports organizations operate both from a business and a player performance perspective. That’s where you come in: the junior or entry level BI & CRM Intern looking to gain experience.

In this full-time internship running from January through April 2018, you’ll be supporting our Business Intelligence & CRM department. There you will gain exposure to everything from generating KPI data visualizations for our Executive team to player performance dashboards to support our Sports Science team. We’re a small crew so you’ll need to be an ambitious individual who’s not afraid of a challenge. If this sounds like you, please don’t hesitate to apply.

Reporting Structure

The Intern, BI & CRM position reports directly to the Manager, Business Intelligence at Whitecaps FC’s head office in Vancouver’s historic Gastown.

Responsibilities

  • Analytical support for the Business Intelligence department and research strategy, which encompasses all club departments and teams
  • Extract valuable information, including relationships, patterns, trends and projections from complex datasets
  • Identify actionable insights within datasets and provide business recommendations of observations
  • Assist with the design and development of customer segments and customer journeys
  • Generate reports which clearly visualize and summarize research findings
  • Acquire data from primary and secondary data sources
  • Create dashboards using BI/Visualization tools
  • Design, programming and execution of surveys and data collection
  • Completing other related duties as may be assigned

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary education program related to data analysis and visualization
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, SAS VA or MS Power BI an asset

Internship, Practicum or Co-Op Placement Opportunity, Partnership Marketing

Vancouver Whitecaps FC is seeking an outstanding achiever to provide assistance within our Partnership Marketing Department.

Overview

This is a full-time, 3 or 4 month unpaid internship. The position will provide an opportunity for a prospective marketing/sports marketing student to gain experience and insight into how a sponsorship department functions in a sports organization.

To succeed in this role, you are:
