An incredible 2026 FIFA World Cup has concluded, one that came to Canada for the first time.
Now it's time to start looking ahead to 2030.Â
We should preface this by saying that nearly every current Vancouver Whitecaps FC player could be in contention. And in that same breath, plenty can change in four years time.
So many Whitecaps FC players have already been capped by their countries, including Sam Adekugbe (Canada), Tristan Blackmon (United States), Andrés Cubas (Paraguay), Ryan Gauld (Scotland), Mihail Gherasimencov (Moldova), Belal Halbouni (Syria), Emmanuel Sabbi (United States), Ranko Veselinović (Serbia), and Brian White (United States). It wouldn't surpise any 'Caps fan to see Isaac Boehmer (Canada), MathÃas Laborda (Urugauy), or Yohei Takaoka (Japan) get the call either.
So there is much to play for over the next four years.
Here are 10 more 'Caps players to keep an eye on.
The Whitecaps FC BMO Academy product has earned a regular role with the 'Caps first team since rising from the youth levels, to WFC2, and earning an MLS contract last year. In January, he earned his first call-up to Canada's men's national team, playing against El Salvador. Badwal will be 24-years-old when the next World Cup arrives.
Berhalter made it to the World Cup with the United States men's national team this year, but he will surely be looking for more. The MLS Best XI midfielder became the first MLS player ever to record a goal and assist in a World Cup match. In 2030, Berhalter will be 29-years-old, and could be poised for a second run at the tournament.
Since joining the 'Caps midway through the 2025 season, Cabrera has become a regular with the Peruvian national team. Peru of course missed out on the 2026 World Cup, but Cabrera will be looking to help change their fortunes, when he will be a 27-year-old for the 2030 tournament.
A young prospect who joined Whitecaps FC this year from his home country of Ecuador. Still only 21, Caicedo was in the pre-World Cup camp for Ecuador this year. In 2030, he will be 25 and hoping to follow in the footsteps of his countryman and former 'Caps player Pedro Vite to help his country at the main event.
Elloumi also got a taste of the world's biggest stage this year as he was selected to Tunisia's final World Cup roster. It was a whirlwind for a player who only a year earlier was unsigned in the Whitecaps FC BMO Academy. At 18-year-old, he was the 10th youngest player in the tournament. In four years time, he will still only be 22 and hopeful of making another run to the World Cup.
Bet against Tate Johnson at your own risk. The 21-year-old has turned heads since the 'Caps selected him 15th overall in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft. Since then, he has become a regular for one of the best teams in MLS, and has already represented the United States at the U-20 level. In 2030, he will have gained even more valuable experience at 25-years-old.
The native of Comox, British Columbia is still only 19-years-old and at the early stages of his professional career. Just last year he signed an MLS homegrown contract. Later this month he will represent Canada with a chance to qualify for the 2026 FIFA U-20 World Cup and 2028 Summer Olympics, all under the watchful eye of Canada men's national team head coach Jesse Marsch. Mackenzie will be 23-years-old in 2030.
The Colombian was on the prelimary roster for his country ahead of this World Cup, justifying the progress that he continues to make. Still only 22, he has already excelled as a regular starter for the 'Caps, both defending and attacking. At 26-years-old in 2030, he looks like every bit a potential candidate to be playing for his country.
Priso was so close to being selected for this year's World Cup. The 23-year-old has been very strong for Whitecaps FC over the last year, especially in showing his versatility as a centre back. He was right on the edge of Canada's squad. At 27-years-old in 2030, Priso now has a runway to continue growing into a strong option for his country.
Sabaly was a member of Senegal's squad that came through an impressive run at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. After years of excelling in France, he signed with the 'Caps this year, steadily growing into his transition in North America. He was unfortunate to miss out on this year's World Cup squad, but as a 31-year-old in 2030 he could still be fighting to play at the next one.
