Canada fight valiantly, but fall 2-0 to Mexico to end Olympic qualification hopes

Canada Olympic Qualifying huddle

Canada battled valiantly and fought until the end, but fell 1-0 to Mexico on Sunday to see their Olympic dreams come to an end.

Whitecaps FC midfielders Michael Baldisimo and Patrick Metcalfe started for Canada, with fellow Whitecaps FC BMO Academy System product David Norman at centre back. Theo Bair and Ryan Raposo subbed on in the second half, and Derek Cornelius sat out with an injury suffered in the final group match against Honduras. The 'Caps players will travel to Utah on Monday as they await the arrival of the team on Friday.

The Canadians defended well throughout the first half, with goalkeepr James Pantemis coming up with numerous big plays. However a missed pass in the second half ultimately proved costly as the home team capitalized for the opening goal.

A few minutes later the Mexicans found a second after a header went off the post then rebounded in for 2-0.
