VANCOUVER, BC – Major League Soccer announced on Monday that Vancouver Whitecaps FC defender  MathÃas Laborda has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 11 following his performance in the ’Caps 1-1 draw at LA Galaxy. The result extended Vancouver's best-ever start to an MLS regular season to 8W-1L-1D (25 points) and the 'Caps are now unbeaten in five (4W-0L-1D).
Vancouver earned a well-deserved point last Saturday at Dignity Health Sports Park. After falling behind early in the second half, the 'Caps seized control of the match and found their equalizer in the 82nd minute from a set piece. Berhalter delivered a perfect cross to the back post, where Laborda rose to head home and make it 1–1.
Laborda’s goal was his third of the young season and his seventh goal contribution (3G, 4A), matching his MLS career high from last year. He now ranks second among defenders in club MLS history with 12 goals, trailing only former Costa Rican centre back Kendall Waston (15).
In addition to scoring, Laborda completed 90% of his passes - including 13 into the final third - while recording two tackles, two interceptions, and 12 recoveries. It also marks the second time in 2026 that the Uruguayan has been named to the Team of the Matchday (Matchday 4).
Along with Laborda, the 'Caps have had a heavy presence on the MLS Team of the Matchday through the opening weeks of the season, with midfielder Sebastian Berhalter (Matchday 1, Matchday 3, Matchday 4, Matchday 6), striker Brian White (Matchday 3, Matchday 4, Matchday 7, Matchday 10), forward Emmanuel Sabbi (Matchday 8), attacking midfielder Thomas Müller (Matchday 2), defender Tristan Blackmon (Matchday 3), and head coach Jesper Sørensen (Matchday 3) earning selections.
Dating back to the start of 2025, no MLS team has posted a better regular season record than the Blue and White at 26W-8L-10D. In that time, the 'Caps have the best goal difference (+48), fewest goals against (44), and second most goals scored (92).
