WEEKLY STORYLINES

INTERNATIONAL 'CAPS: Six Vancouver Whitecaps FC players, all aged 24 or younger, represented their respective national teams during the March international window. Ralph Priso joined up with Canada, Sebastian Berhalter spent time with the United States, Rayan Elloumi was called up to Tunisia's senior team for the first time, Kenji Cabrera played with Peru, Mihail Gherasimencov was away with Moldova, and Tate Johnson was in Korea with the United States U-21 side.

WE MEET AGAIN: The 'Caps are set to resume MLS play and renew their acquaintances with a familiar foe in Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers. The two sides last met on March 7 at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon, with the Blue and White handing their rivals a 4-1 result in their own backyard thanks to a brace from Brian White, as well as goals from Tristan Blackmon and Sebastian Berhalter. In their last four meetings with Portland, the 'Caps have outscored the Timbers 14-3, while tallying a 5W-1L-2D record in their last eight meetings. A win would see the 'Caps take a six-point cushion in their quest for a ninth Cascadia Cup. The match will also be the club's fifth-annual Vaisakhi Match, presented by MNP.

THE ROAD AHEAD: The clash against Portland will mark the second of five consecutive home matches for the 'Caps at BC Place, before playing five road matches ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026â„¢ break. The Blue and White will host their Indigenous Peoples Match, presented by BMO against New York City FC on April 11, followed by matches against Sporting Kansas City on April 17 and Colorado Rapids on April 25. Vancouver will then face five Western Conference opponents in LA Galaxy, San Jose Earthquakes, FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo FC, and San Diego FC during their road swing. The 'Caps are scheduled to resume MLS play on July 16 with a visit to Eastern Conference side Chicago Fire FC.

COLIN MILLER'S KEYS TO THE MATCH

  • Capitalize on space
Defensively, Portland are all over the place.
We need to attack with pace.
We also need to capitalize on those spaces and get runs in behind their defensive unit.
  • Strength in numbers
With players out, it's an opportunity for players to step in and for us to show our depth.
They can claim a place in the team.
Maybe not just short-term but long-term as well.
  • Staying organized
Portland can be dangerous on the break.
We need to be organized when we are attacking.
    Keep the back door shut.

Catch Asa Rehman and Colin Miller on the 730 CKNW radio call this Saturday, with the pre-match show kicking off at 7 p.m. PT.
